Stouffville was established in 1792 by Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada, Colonel John Graves Simcoe. Stouffville originally included a dirt road, (Main Street) now Stouffville Road, with independently owned shops and 1/2 to 1 acre parcels of land on which to build houses . Decades later, Stouffville grew, and is still growing, to now reach the borders of Ringwood, Aurora and Markham. Thirty years ago, Ann opened Ann's Fabrics. As Stouffville kept growing, so did Ann's. Soon, the simple fabric store moved and became Ann's Fabrics & Sewing Centre with Sears parcel depot. Some background information on Ann: Ann started sewing on her mother's lap at the ripe old age of 2. From then on, she went to many 4H courses: sewing, cooking, gardening. After high school the transition was to college in the Fashion Design and Technique Course, minoring in machine knitting, and, at that time, the furriers machinery. Stepping from college into the retail market, Ann worked for a number of years. Along came the decision to open the fabric store...... in one week! Definitely not advisable in this day and age. Through the years, customer service has been the stayed and true mission of the store. I would like to personally thank the clients that were with me in the first years, and the ones that are still with me now. |
