Course Overview
This two-session course is designed for individuals who want to learn the fundamentals of using a serger machine. Participants will gain hands-on experience and the confidence to incorporate serging techniques into their sewing projects.
Session Breakdown
Session 1: Introduction to the Serger Machine
Understanding the Serger: Overview of the serger machine, its parts, and how it differs from a regular sewing machine.
Threading the Serger: Step-by-step instructions on how to thread the machine correctly.
Basic Stitches: Introduction to various stitches and when to use them (overlock, rolled hem, etc.).
Practice Time: Hands-on practice with threading and creating basic stitches on fabric.
Session 2: Advanced Techniques
Adjusting Tensions: Understanding and adjusting thread tension for different fabrics.
Finishing Edges: Techniques for finishing edges and seams professionally.
Creative Uses: Exploring creative applications of the serger for hems, seams, and embellishments.
Materials Needed
Personal serger machine
Thread appropriate for the serger (Thread can be purchased in store)
Basic sewing supplies (scissors, tweezers, etc.)
Course Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to confidently operate a serger machine, understand its functions, and apply various techniques to enhance their sewing projects.

Ann began sewing at just 2 years old on her mother's lap and from there her sewing journey took off! Ann took various 4H courses in sewing and after high school, she pursued a degree in Fashion Design and Techniques, minoring in machine knitting and furriers machine.
